What Works Clearinghouse Help Desk Releases New Resource Guides

The What Works Clearinghouse Help Desk opened on January 3. This new service provides federal, state, and local education officials, researchers, program providers, and educators with practical, easy-to-use tools to help understand and produce scientifically valid evidence about "what works."   These tools include two new guides, "Key Items to Get Right When Conducting a Randomized Controlled Trial in Education" and "Reporting the Results of Your Study." The "Key Items" guide is intended as a practical resource for researchers and sponsors of research. This checklist of items covers everything from planning the study to measuring outcomes and analyzing study results. The "Reporting the Results" guide is a user-friendly guide for evaluators of educational programs and practices, suggesting key items to include in the study report so as to give the reader a clear understanding of what was evaluated, how it was evaluated, and what the evaluation found.  Call the Help Desk toll free at 800-992-9799 for help in using and finding resources, or email info@whatworks.ed.gov.
