Partnering to Examine Career and Technical Education Outcomes in Round Rock, Texas

January 19, 2021

Round Rock Independent School District (ISD), located in an Austin metropolitan suburb in Central Texas, wanted to enhance its high school career and technical education (CTE) programming to ensure it met the needs of students and the community. This video describes how REL Southwest partnered with Round Rock district leaders to conduct a study to determine whether the district’s CTE programs of study were aligned with regional high-wage, in-demand careers. The study also examined whether CTE graduates were prepared to enter those careers or to continue their education after high school. The video presents key findings from REL Southwest’s report Examining High School Career and Technical Education Programs and the Postsecondary Outcomes of Career and Technical Education Students in the Round Rock Independent School District.

The study’s principal investigator, REL Southwest Deputy Director Lynn Mellor, describes the study’s key findings and implications, and Round Rock CTE Director Sheri Bonds discusses how Round Rock ISD and other Central Texas districts can use the study’s findings for planning and decisionmaking.
