COVID-19 Recovery and Strategic Use of Funds from The American Rescue Plan (ARP) of 2021: Selecting and Measuring the Effectiveness of Evidence-Based Practices

Date: June 30, 2021

At the request of state education agency (SEA) leaders, REL West collaborated with the Region 2, 13, and 15 Comprehensive Centers and RELs Northeast and Islands and Southwest to present a webinar on evidence-based practices and data collection to support the effective use of ARP funds.

Presenters discussed the application of Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) evidence levels to select appropriate interventions using ARP funds, with a focus on two content areas: accelerated learning and socioemotional supports for students.

The webinar was designed to assist SEA teams in using evidence to select appropriate interventions to meet their identified needs. As a result of their participation, SEA attendees:

  • Gained deeper knowledge about ESSA evidence requirements as they relate to ARP
  • Developed strategies for supporting LEAs in using their ARP funds to select evidence-based interventions and strategies around accelerated learning and socioemotional supports
  • Gained a better understanding of how to measure progress as part of a continuous improvement process
  • Developed expectations for LEAs’ measurement of student progress and outcomes tied to ARP funds and supports for LEAs on collecting and using these data
