Supporting the Whole Child

Strengthening cross-sector collaboration to improve student outcomes that support academic learning, including social and emotional learning, physical and mental health, and family engagement and support.

The “whole child” approach extends beyond academic learning to also include social and emotional learning, physical and mental health, and family engagement and support. In the West Region, ambitious collective-impact approaches are emerging in which stakeholders work together to break cycles of intergenerational poverty and other harmful impacts on student success. However, some of the stakeholders involved in these approaches need coaching in their use of data, especially short-term metrics to guide decisionmaking and interorganizational learning. REL West’s research and analytic support is multifaceted, allowing us to partner with education and community leaders to bring much-needed research and analytic support to this area.
